A new  type of terror has taken the form of arson, bombings and sabotage  in the name of saving the environment and its creatures. These destructive acts have been called ecoterrorism.

At least a hundred major acts of this type have occurred in many countries around the world with damages. Such crimes speed up the deforestation on the use of animals for fun and food.

Surrounding some village forests have been burned down, transformed into a pasture for huge herds of cattle. These people have been burned down the forest for their own interests. But they have derived  many people of oxygen which is the motion or the engine of the life!

These acts are considered terrorist acts because they involve violence intended to change the behavior of individuals and institutions or to alter public policies. Limited recently, crimes in the name of environmental protection had a limited local impact and drew little attention. But targets have grown larger in recent years.

History of Solar Energy

October 21, 2012

Dear Meyer,

Billions of people have lived and died on this earth. Most have left no footprint on the sands of times A few however influenced the caused of history. Your willing and self-sacrificing spirit to teach people how to cook using the sun’s energy, is much appreciated by many people in the world.

Michael Faraday, born in 1791, this English physicist was the inventor of the electric motors and the dynamo. His breakthroughs helped to make electricity more available for human use. From the beginning of time daily cooking  requires fire; but in 1767 French/ Swiss naturalist Horace Benedict de Saussure (1740-1799); Solar cooked fruit in a glass-Covered box  made of three panes, two pane boxes and wool  insulation. His breakthrough helped to make solar cooker available for human use.

17 years after the first earth day observed as million protested pollution ( in 1970).  Barbara kenn and others founded the solar cookers international to spread solar cooking benefit to people…and environments worldwide.

Utrecht Oehler, developed a world-famous solar box cooker; and founded in 1980 a solar energy organization named ULOG- of solar energy promoters to make cooking easy and enjoyable from the big cities to the remote villages. NN, Utrecht Oehler died In 2006, but continuing that work will be an important part of honoring his legacy.

In 1998 , You and others, you founded Solar House Hold Energy (SHE). To address six of eight millennium development goals. SHE, also help the household introduce their consumption of electricity without question the discoveries innovations and organizations of a few men have enabled billions of people to have certain advantages on to enjoy better health and life.

As I am now among the SHE members, I am quite happy as I am hired in this organization. This is something I have been thinking for a long time and now it’s  happening! I guess it happened because of a lot of prayers and because I went into a field, and I was passionate about ( Solar Energy); and finally because it was my destiny. Working in SHE is a dream, it will not be good to wake up!

My life now  has the direction and purpose that I had earned since I was a youth. And most important of all, I now feel that one day I will also contribute to help the humanity….

I can say to you without a hint of doubt that serving in nonprofit organization (like SHE); is without question, the worthy human endeavor. Because working to help the humanity brings happiness. And happiness Comes, not to those who seek it for themselves, but to those who seek it for others. Assisting people in need; this eclipses any rank or position anyone can aspire to reach!

As you were a teenage, your vision and courage to join the solar cooking movement; was a clear testimony of your great desire to see people freed from diseases cause by the smoke, produced by firewood, and freed from the burden of firewood.  Your sacrifice and wish to teach people how to cook using the energy from the sun is worth emulating. I must copy your selflessness and immense contribution to the solar cooker movement. Dear Meyer, your years of work were a golden age of progress in which  you contributed a lot… That was truly worthwhile. Your selfless contribution to the solar cooker movement for the benefit of people will remain as an inspiration to the future generation. As you helped refugee, you deserve the Nansen medal! May God bless you.
Sincerely yours,
Lunda Vincente

Thank You To Volunteers

October 21, 2012

Thank you for a life time of outstanding work on behalf of the needy. I express my wholehearted support for your good work,  which is good for us and good for our planet. Many volunteers deserve the Nansen medal for worked wirelessly for the welfare and outstanding contributions on behalf of refugees…

Dear madam, once again you deserve a gold star medal for your courage and humility to work in refugee camps as a kakuma refugee camp where the conditions of hygiene was precarious.

I’m teaching people, how to cook using the energy from the sun. I can say that volunteers have embarked on what may be the most widespread campaign against the deforestation. Dear Meyer, you should be very happy with the part you have played- an excellent part in the building up the condition of cooking of refugees in kakuma refugee camp and for the local people in Egypt, Mexico, and Cote D’ivoire ect… It is my belief that your work will be  written into the history.

Inside a Refugee Camp

October 21, 2012

Refugees need hot pots instead of firewood to cook their food. Six times a week, they go into the bush or farms to collect the biomass. They leave the camp early and return by midday to avoid ferocious animals who would devour them.

They walk a total of nine or ten kilometers each time to collect firewood, and need about eight hours to find enough firewood on biomass, for their family’s needs. The load that each one carries back weighs between eleven to thirteen kilograms.

The hot-pot can protect people from being killed by snakes, ferocious animals on from being bit by bees. Yes indeed, the hot-pot is, and will be always ready to deal with the situation. Cooking with biomass on firewood is not good because they cause more problems, like diseases and other problems and that’s not good either…

Hope for a New Beginning

October 21, 2012

Dear Meyer,

I am writing to you regarding your assistance which brought me the hope in my life. During the war and pillage, a prevalent motto among the Congolese youth was: You can steal our possessions, but you can never steal what is in our brain.

Today that motto gives us the courage to pursue studies and acquires something that nobody would even be able to steal- knowledge. Knowledge is power! I will be proud to succeed academically…

Yesterday it was the war; Terror; escape; starvation. But tomorrow it will be a new beginning, new home, and new hope,  all thanks to you Louis Meyer. Your assistance makes me feel better and useful. I suffered a lot in life… But through your assistance- better times just ahead! What you have done for me will not lose its value with the passing of time…

Here in the refugee camp, planning for the future was a forgotten luxury. Now, my tears of  suffering have turned to tears of joy. Since you have accepted to help me, I guess that the future will be brighten than the past- you are the one who makes it happen. Before that my suffering was a destiny, but now I consider it as a coincidence on a period of the life. Hungry, however remains a harsh needy for people living in the refugee camp. Here, of the food which is given by UNHCR finish before the end of the month, we will be hungry  for days- not to mention the bitten cold. I know of others who search the dust bin for food. But for me, through your help it seems that there is hope.

No matter how uncertain the future might be, hope keeps moving towards it… It wants long and lovingly, for that which is not apparent. Beyond all that meets the eye, hope hopes to keep on hoping, waiting for the gift of God’s constant coming…As of Martin Luther King Junior said ” Everything done in this world is done by hope“. Yes indeed the hope makes someone to live.

I lost everything during the war, that is except the one possession that nobody can take away: hope. The indestructible hope of one day finding a place to  rebuild my life … A place to call home…One day I will forget my past because of your mercy. But the result of your assistance will live on.. God will pay in return for what you did for me. What we do in life echoes in eternity!

Looking back during the war, my life had turned out very differently from what I had dreamed of in my youth… But your assistance has brought me the greatest happiness possible now and marvelous hope for the future… Life becomes more bearable  with the help and comfort that you have offered.

Many people suffered a lot during the war. Some of them had watched in heaven as their family members were being killed, burned or buried alive. Some were cut in little pieces and some were being raped in their presence. Many women and young girls were infected with HIV/AIDS involuntarily. Just imagine they cut someone  in front of you. Even if that person is not your family member- just imagine what you will feel psychologically. During the war I saw how much the pregnant women suffered…

I saw terrible things during the war, many people died. I still struggle, even though this occurred over 14 years ago. At times, I have recollection of the of the carriage I later as and realize how close to death I came. I will never forget that Monday morning… My memories during the war was filled with traps to forests and mountains. Today, sometimes when I think about what happened-I have goose bumps!

Words cannot express my gratitude to you. I thank you a lot. I also thank our God because is a God of love. He has demonstrated that love by giving us his word- the Bible. It is as if he has written us a personal letter to guide our steps. Sometimes I need the Bible all night long until the morning sun peeked through the window.

Thank you once again dear Meyer for helping me to keep my fame of hope alive… One day I will look in the past and say that: ” heart broken by my cries – Meyer brought me to America- She is a charitable person”. I will never forget what you did for me, I will always be grateful. Because an act of generosity never becomes rotten!

Long time back, I was actually very unhappy- lost and disappointed with my life. Deep down, I knew that something was missing… Now, drawing close to your help has helped me to cope with feelings of abandonment. You have given me a sense of belonging by bringing me with people like Alejandra Lorenzo- Chang.

Through this letter, I would like to thank you because of your contribution you have made to the spread of solar cooking. Many people around the world feel the same way about you.
One final note: Thank you once again for working hard at your career, making a name for yourself in the history of solar cooking. I respect your knowledge. Thanks again for helping me- I know that is not the hand who gives but the heart…

Every working day the sun rises so that you can cook easily. So we must leave the verb to give to be conjugated by the sun. Because the sun gives its energy without asking something in return.

I’m the sky, the sun, sources of all energies are still saying that ” The way to cook without spending money is open to everyone having hot-pot at home”.  We can see with our own eyes that the hot-pot plays a crucial role. Added to that, cooking using the hot-pot is a natural means to fight deforestation and pollution. Indeed it is environmentally friendly.

If SHE does not act, people will be trapped in to be slaves of firewood. Last week, when I was cooking, the firewood smoke made a big sign in the sky with the D-shaped. The firewood describes to me, in telling me that, the letter D means Deadly. On the contrary, the hot-pot whispered to my ears and told me that D– shaped means Diseases, and Death. In other words, that is Dangerous for our own health, and the environment.

Yes we can see that through the hot-pot many lives will be saved. So we agree that, to compare the hot-pot with the firewood is like trying to navigate the streets of New York using a map of Paris.

We are annoyed that we had wasted so much effort in the past trying to stock a lot of firewood in hope to cook easily. At last we have discovered that the firewood smoke is very  Dangerous. Now, as we know the truth, thanks to SHE, not in the least would we use again the firewood.

If the hot-pot was a person, it might be awarded the marshal medal; for its fight to protect the environment and his fight against some Diseases. Does the hot-pot work or is it just a theory? The answer is just try it and it works… Can the hot-pot cooks? The answer is a word “YES”. Yes indeed the hot-pot deserves to be thanked.
